Permission Denied (Public key)

Yesterday I was trying to login fedorapeople.org but every time I was getting Permission Denied (Public key) error. First I thought may be my ssh is expire so I generate new one and again tried but same error, then I asked on IRC, pingou told me to debug ssh key using (ssh -vvv fasname@fedorapeople.org). Did same but after few steps it's again showed same error. Then nirik told me to use ssh-add (ssh-add <path of ssh key> ) and try to again debug and baNG I was on my remote machine. He told me the problem is that ssh-add doesn't by default look for all possible private keys, it only looks for id_rsa and id_dsa and identify and your public key is id_rsa_fed, so we have to add it manually. If someone face this type of issue may be it's help.

FUDCon Last day - Hackfest

Last day was completely dedicated to heckfest. we had around 10 hecking session and students were totally excited about heckfest. I went to Robert RPM heckfest for volunteering and he was shock to see around 15-20 students want to make their first rpm :) , I was helping to Heherson Pagcaliwagan , Soumya and Kishan meanwhile Ankur was helping me to review a package.

We had pizza during lunch :). Post lunch Shreyank is doing heck on dorrie, me and vaidik joined him. He told us what are the road blocks now and how we should work for it, he assigned me to work on packaging of dorrie, will working on it.

At auditorium Organizing team were taking feedback to participant, how much they enjoyed and learned during FUDCon. Then we had awesome cake with fedora logo. To end of event we had feedback session with volunteers and they gave some good points to improve. After that we headed back to hotel.

I met everyone and was ready to leave. Kudos to FUDCon team for great job.

FUDCon Day-2

Started with Harish Pillay keynote "Thoughts about Community", talked about CommArch team (Community Architecture and Leadership team), their plans and roadblocks. After that I attended talk on RPM Fusion by Ankur Sinha, talked about why fusion repo is different fedora repo, also gave a demo how to use IRC. Amit Shah told me about PIUS on sourceforge and he asked me to pack it. My bad luck I got wrong source and started to compile it, during configure it thrown a creepy error, Siddhesh help me out. During lunch I asked Amit is it same source which I suppose to pack, then he gave me the correct link :)

Post lunch attended latex and beamer talk, Ankur finished it before scheduled time, then Rahul started with questions / Answers session, students able to ask him some questions and talked about how can they contribute in fedora community.

Then I headed to autotools talk by Siddhesh Poyarekar, end of the talk we successfully made makefile using autotools. After that I joined askbot talk by Rahul, talked about what is askbot and it's features. He also told that they need some designer for logo and mascot for askbot. Then we have a group photo, and headed to Park Estique for FUDPub.

FUDPub was awesome, loud music , lots of booze and nice food. Had a great time with all the volunteers and contributors.

FUDCon Day 1

Started with Inauguration and after that Jared Smith Keynote, talked about how river flow is connected with upstream/downstream in software development, also talked about how feature, freedom, friends and first make sense with fedora community. After that I met many people, known only with IRC (Ankur Sinha, Vaidik Kapoor, Danishka Navin, Amit Shah, Lakshmi Narasimhan, Arun SAG, .. and so many).

Then we went for Ratnadeep Debnath talk, It was about transfix, He told important links where people can start and contribute. Heherson Pagcaliwagan talk about Fedora Web of trust and also we exchanged our gpg keys. Post Lunch I again looked up with gnome-pie packaging but still breaking :(, will get through today hopefully.

After went for Final talk of day, Well Oiled Machine delivered by Heherson Pagcaliwagan, talked about what are the rule of fedora Ambassador and how can we join after that we have lightening talks Jared, talked about fedora 16 features, Rahul talked about fedora 17 (rawhide), Prof. Abhijit talked about problems with updating/installing of packages in Linux, He want package with all the dependencies bundle so that student share it a with there friends using pendrives.

NetworkManager Downgraded

Recently I updated my fedora box and after that my network manager broken for wireless connection (I was not able to test it for wired), I asked on IRC and nirik told me it is a bug and soon it will fix but if I want to work now then I have to downgrade it but as my network is not working so I was not able to downgrade it, so I just run command for downgrade yum downgrade NetworkManager\* and I found out which packages yum wants to downgrade. (Moe__ told me if my wireless connection name contain any space then it crash nm, he told me to remove all connection and then restart nm. He was right after removed all connection my nm again started but it again crashed as soon I made a wifi connection)
Now I made list of downgraded packages with correct version and then from another machine I downloaded those packages rpm and placed it "/var/cache/yum/i386/15/fedora/packages/" (It's yum cache path where it put package after download) and I again run above command for downgrade. Now NetworkManager successfully downgraded and also resolved my wifi problem.

KDE Conf. Last Day

Today we reached little bit early as it was the last day designated as code-sprint. Delegates and developers were sitting in the conference room and discussing problems. Some batches had "My First KDE App" and "Squash the Bugs" workshops. I went for Squash the Bug which was taken by Abhishek Patil. I was supposed to help during session, but I made a mistake (without looking for the error I simply ran 'make clean' ); so he got angry and I simply said sorry (yeah, it sometimes work). Well in this workshop we had to add a functionality (using keyboard shortcut zoom-out) in Gwenview (Image viewer for KDE). Abhishek told us how to proceed for a bug and gave some useful url for kde-bugs. After that we had lunch. Then we went to conference hall and I asked about QFile problem to Vishesh Handa and pyinotify problem to Nikhil Marathe. Then Shantanu sent me to help Anne-Marie Mahfouf during "Squash the Bug" session but very less students were there, so Anne demonstrated how to make a patch and what is the importance of version control and also how one can contribute to KDE. At last she gave us her business card and also I was able to take some group pics :) . Then we went to KDE - booth and collected our certificates. We finally met all the speakers before coming back. It was a awesome experience to meet all the KDE community whom I knew only through IRC. Thanks to Pradeepto for implementing his conference idea into reality. Hats off to all the speakers and volunteers for their great work. YaY we got some cool KDE badges and fedora badges also :) .

KDE Conf. Day 3

Well we reached at 9.30am. Day started with Adriaan de Groot's talk "Bits of Legal".He talked about different types of licences like BSD, GPL .. etc and how they varies product to product.Then he described about Qt in KDE and after that he demostrated about how easy to contribute in KDE.

Then we went to attend "Generic Component Framework" which was taken by Prashanth N Udupa. He talked about component concept and how it is different to widget concept, then he made a photoviwer using GCF and after that question answer session was there. After that "The Qt Model/View Framework" workshop was there which was taken by Volker Krause. he talked about Module (QListwidget, QTreewidget ..etc) and View (view can retrieve items of data from the data source) framework.

Then we had lunch before that we had a group photo session by Kushal Das. After lunch he demostrated some incomplete problems and asked us what should be write in particular fuction to solve it. During session I met to Vishesh Handa (told me about yakuake package) and Nikhil Marathe. It went around 4 hour. Then we went to main hall. Sartaj Singh was giving talk about how KDE community can help to face a real life chlanges.After that Pradeepto gave thanks to all speakers, volunteer, sponsors and delegates. He talked about what problems he faced before conferece, even he was not sure about conference. And finally we hugged Kenny for his great work (wifi setup).

KDE Conf. Day 2

Well today we took bus a bit late around 8.00am and reached venue at 9.30am. Morning keynote was based on "Traditional hues and Technology" given by Runa. She described about language localization in open world, how to contribute and what are tools we can use. After that Lydia Pintscher talked on "Let me teach you how to fish" . Her talk was basically for those students who want to know how can they get GSOC.

After that we went for attend "Qt Script" talk which was took by Nikhil Marathe but we were late so can't understand stuff. Then we ran for Rahul's talk but that time Kushal talk was going on. He talked about "PyQt" and gave some urls where we can start. We met two kids there (Ram and Money ..name not sure). They asked some question to kushal and also ask his contact, I am sure Kushal have their photographs :)

Then Rahul talked on "Past, present and future of KDE in Fedora and how you can participate" . He described about how to contribute, what is difference between up-stream and down-stream, how bug-tracker works, what are the different problems packager face .. etc. Then we went for lunch. After lunch we had a workshop on "My kde app". We designed a calculator and solved a problem in Qt. Day was end with a keynote "Art and OpenSource" by Eugene Trounev (designed logo for kde conf) . He talked about how much art is important and how you can contribute if you are a artist. At last pradeepto a hug day was there and we all hugged pradeepto :) .

KDE Conf. Day 1

Well we already got two mails what we have to take during registration (Thanks for administration). We woke up early so to reach venue correct time and thank god we reached precisely 8.00am. I saw Pradeepto and Shantanu at registration desk , I just shook hand with them during registration because they were too busy with work. Then we went to main conference Hall and till now every speaker arrived, we introduced to kushal Das and obviously he was busy with photography, he show us his new hot baby :) .
At 9.30 am Ingratiation started and about half an hour later "So much to do - So little time" by Lydia Pintscher started. She gave a basic idea about kde and contribution in it. Around 11.00am "Getting started with Qt" by Prashanth N Udupa and Abhishek Patil started and those guys started very basic of Qt (Introduction of Qt-Creator, Qt-designer, different QWidgets, Customs Button ..etc)
.In this session we made a simple text editor and an Image-viewer.This was a approximately 4 hour session and in between we had lunch.
Then I went for kate-plugins talk which was taken by Abhishek Patil. He started with hierarchy of kate-plugin, plugin basic Architecture , Kparts ..etc. In the end of his talk he presented a tab kate-plugin and also gave links from where we can start. Day was end with a keynote on "Open Governors" by Knut Yrvin. He talked about presence of qt (In digital world qt is use everywhere). After that some question answer session on qt and Nokia. Finally he show his awesome break dance (Hats off for that) and by mistake I was not able to make video :( and day end.

Install ns-allinone-2.35 in fedora 14

NS2 stands for network simulator and it is not in fedora repository but it's allinone package is available on isi.edu recently ns-2.35 RC7 is there with updated tcl and tk library but still it is not support gcc-4.5 series (does not like the X::X() construct) so i made 2 patches.

After apply those patches you can follow below steps.

Install Dependences :
yum install autoconf
yum install automake
yum install gcc-c++
yum install libX11-devel
yum install xorg-x11-proto-devel
yum install libXt-devel
yum install libXmu-devel

Build ns-allinone-2.35
Go to you download directory and extract package (tar -xvf tarball), go to extracted directory and run
#./install

Validate ns-2.35
Go to ns-2.35 directory and run
#./validate (take almost 1 hour so keep patience)

Add PATH in .bashrc
vim ~/.bashrc
Add the following lines to the end of it. Remember replace “/opt/” by your installation path like “/home/username”. And accordingly also change the version numbers. This is for ns 2.35.

KDE Conf. for beginner

Well many people such as Nikhil Marathe, Santosh G Vattam, Aditya Kavoor and Shantanu Tushar Jha updated their blog about kde.conf encouraging the student community for participation.According to the above blogs it seems that KDE is a very student friendly community and helps students grow. KDE developers have attended Mukti since last 3 years. Pradeepto has come twice and Shantanu came earlier this year and make that "Last few days" :)

Pidgin-Logviewer Package

In these day I was quite busy with our college fest. During Mukti I met some great geeks (Rahul Sundaram, Kushal Das, Shreyank Gupta, Shantanu Tushar Jha) . Just after Mukti I started to make a RPM package of pidgin-logviewer which is developed by one of our junior Tirtha and thanks to debayan da for moved the .c file to the automake build system, finally i finished it. I also created a review request on Bugzilla ( Request ).

Installation command : yum install --nogpg package-name [Thanks to Ankur to point out]
Then open Pidgin go to Tools -> Log viewer -> View Logs , you can see the changed logviewer

Mukti '11 - Workshops and Talks

Mukti '11 has started off on the 4th of Feb. The workshops and Talks are as follows:

Day - 1
RPM Workshop by Rahul Sundaram, Red Hat

Rahul started with explaining how one can install from source and explained the details of configure, make and make install. While he talked about makefiles and how dependencies are resolved using those makefiles, Kushal took a nap (needed an energy drink to charge him). Shrink was busy with making his intelligent box connect to the wifi. He then started the workshop with the package hello, along with talking about tools that are used before they get deployed. He then quite beautifully described to the audience what an rpmdev-setuptree was as well as all directories created under rpmbuild directory. The practice session started by writing the spec file for hello source. He then talked at length about build requirement, uses of macro, finding the suitable group. How each section, viz., description, prep, build, install, post, clean, files, change log, works was explained nicely by him. This workshop went on for around 4 hours. At the end there was a Q&A session followed by a little background on Koji and Bodhi of Fedora project. He also talked about how a package gets selected in repo and how beginners can approach packaging. Kushal during this session also talked about photography and discussed about pursuing it as a hobby with the audience.

System programming using python by Kushal Das, Red Hat

Show started with an oops moment, we were not able to connect to the network on venue. We then had to obtain passwords of secure wireless networks of CSE Dept. Shrink was happy and so were we, phew. The talk primarily aimed at the first and second years involved giving them an idea about the Pytohn programming language focussing on its strength - quick development. Kushal started with explaining the data types that are usedin python. He utilised the python interpreter and engaged in entertaining conversations with the students in between. He moved on to talk about object oriented programming in python. By the way, random rantings on photography continued in between the session. How python integrates dynamically, with its history in brief. It was a 2 hour session which concluded with him explaining about data structures like link lists, tuples, dictionary, stack etc.

Day - 2
System programming using python by Kushal Das, Red Hat

With the talks that he had to address, it was quite apt to say as Kushal's day. He began the talk by giving an overview of system programming commands that we generally use in the C language. He then gave a detailed explanation of the os module in python particularly talking about uname, mkdir and listdir. It was followed by a hands-on example of spawning an external shell program using the sub-process module with retrieving and processing its output to show the computer's uptime. After that, system calls like os.fork() were visited and finally covering user specific information like os.getuid() and os.getlogin().

GUI Design using Python by Kushal Das, Red Hat

In his next session, Kushal designed a simple GUI, which takes the input from the user in a text-box. When the user hits the Run button beside the text-box, the entered text appears in a result viewer below the input box. He explained in detail both the approaches that could be adopted

1. Code the GUI using Python, and also the functions of each widget.

2. Design the GUI using a UI creator, and code only the functional part. We go for this approach here.

He told the audience that instead of creating every widget using code, Glade may be used as a more suitable option. He then created and designed the interface and positioned the widgets, using Glade3.

The focal point of the talk was on how to start coding. He explained it as a step by step approach, beginning with which language should be chosen along with the pros and cons of each language like C++, Java. After this was done, he followed it up with some algorithms and data-structures. He explained to the audience that for development of software, the knowledge of data-structures like, stack, queue, tree, dictionary and algorithms - search,sort, dfs, bfs, shortest path, matching, coloring is essential. Most importantly, he stressed on the dictum, "Practice, Practice and Practice".

Day - 3
System programming using python by Kushal Das, Red Hat

Kushal continued from where he had left behind the last day. The session was mainly in order to deal with problems being faced by students. Kushal gave some on-spot problem so that students could get more familiarity with environment. Shantanu had also joined us in the talk which was of a two hour period.

Using QML To Create Fluid User Interface by Shantanu Tushar Jha, KDE Developer

He started the talk with basic introduction about QML and also told us how this fluid is different from mechanical fluid :) . After that he started with making some QML apps and also told us to work on the showed example. Audience really took interest with QML apps. In fact, everybody devised their own creativity into the stuff. Then he showed us a twitter app which he developed using QML and at the end of workshop he invited us for conf.kde.in.

Ruby on Rails by Shreyank Gupta, Red Hat

As a web developer this is his favorite topic. He started with how to install ruby and rails in the system, giving instruction to install gem first and than using gem install rails. The beginning of the talk was rough, we got stuck with installing rails in some systems but after some time we figured it out. He created a project name mukti_demo and start with step by step developing a simple application which add a project, contributer, time-line of project. Then he modified some code and showed how to perform some more operations like delete and view profile.

RPM Packaging Workshop

Yesterday we held a workshop for RPM Packaging basic, almost 15 students took part in workshop. I started with how we can install a source without make a package and told the details of configure,make and make install. I selected the most famous GNU package hello for packaging, discuss about tools which we use for make a package and then explained about rpmdev-setuptree and all directories created under rpmbuild directory. Then we started to make the spec file for hello source, explain about build requirement and Requirement, uses of macro, find the suitable group, use of each section(description, prep, build, install, post, clean, files,change log). During compile spec file so many student got error so we checked their spec files and find out the reason (mostly due to typo). This workshop went around 3 hour in IT-Dept Lab. I hope everyone enjoyed the session and cleared all the doubts.

Boot From a USB Drive Even if your BIOS Won’t Let You

You've always got a trusty bootable USB flash drive with you to solve computer problems, but what if a

PC’s BIOS won’t let you boot from USB? We’ll show you how to make a CD that will let you boot from your USB drive.

A piece of freeware called PLoP Boot Manager solves this problem, offering an image that can burned to a CD or put on a floppy disk, and enables you to boot to a variety of devices, including USB drives.

Put PLoP on a CD

PLoP comes as a zip file, which includes a variety of files. To put PLoP on a CD, you will need either

plpbt.iso or plpbtnoemul.iso from that zip file. Either disc image should work on most computers, though if in doubt plpbtnoemul.iso should work “everywhere,” according to the readme included with PLoP Boot Manager. Burn plpbtnoemul.iso or plpbt.iso to a CD and then skip to the “booting PLoP Boot Manager” section.

If the CD drive is not set to boot first, then you will need to access your BIOS’s boot menu, or the setup menu. The exact steps to do this vary depending on your BIOS – to get a detailed description of the process, search for your motherboard’s manual (or your laptop’s manual if you’re working with a laptop).

If all done correctly, PLoP Boot Manager will load up, giving a number of boot options.

This is a pretty geeky way to get your PC to boot from a USB...provided your computer still has a CD

drive. Of course if your BIOS won’t boot from a USB it probably has one...or you really need to update it.

git protocol under proxy

I went through this link and set proxy and port in gitproxy script as our college proxy-server and port .

My gitproxy script looks like

Xchat

Xchat is famous IRC chat program for every Linux distribution. It allows you to join multiple IRC channels (chat rooms) at the same time, talk publicly, private one-on-one conversations etc. Even file transfers are possible.

How to install : its already in repository of your distro, like for install it in fedora open your terminal be superuser and execute "yum install xchat"

Settings:

Fig: 1. Here you can set your nick name, chose networks and add your favourite channels then just click connect.

Fig:2. if you are under proxy server then go to settings->preferences and here you find network set-up under networks and fill the requirements.
Fig:3. If you want to save your logs then just check on enable logging and your logs are saved in '~/.xchat/xchatlogs'.

qroneko Packaging

10-days back I was searching for some qt projects on sourceforge and found a project named qroneko. It is a front-end of crontab. I liked its interface and wanted to make it as a desktop application. At that moment i didn't know how to make a desktop file for it. One guy Rathandeep Debnath helped me out. He gave me his project desktop file and I made a desktop file for qroneko.

Then I thought why not package it. I already attended a rpm packaging class on IRC conducted by Rahul Sundaram. I just revised IRC logs of that class and started to make spec file for it. After 2 days I made a spec file but it failed at the install section. I was bit nervous and pinged Ankur Sinha on IRC. He helped me a lot. Due to him I got success in building an rpm on my system and then he told me to use Mock to test my rpm. I again got stuck with mock testing and finally Shreyank Gupta told me how mock works and what I was missing. Due to the help from these people I could finally build it.

If you want to try the rpm , you can get it from http://kumarpraveen.fedorapeople.org/qroneko/ .Then you can install it your system as

# rpm -ivh qroneko-0.5.4-1.fc13.i686.rpm

Then go to Application->System->qroneko for start it.

Install Dropbox in fedora

Dropbox is the easiest way to store, sync, and, share files on-line and has no complicated interface to learn. I downloaded its rpm package and run command "rpm -ivh package-name"
it successfully install without any error only so one warning (We don't care about warning ). At that time i thought dropbox installed in my system and i can sync my folder but when i opened dropbox and click on splash screen, it show me following error.

Shit i did not get any preference window for set proxy so now time to google. I googled this problem around 1:30 hour and ask my friend also but at last i got a blog in which that person
upload a tar file. That tar file contain all the file which dropbox download from the net and make a .dropbox-dist folder in your home directory.

Installation steps :

1. Download dropbox rpm from its main site and install it using command "rpm -ivh package-name"
2. Download off-line file from here .
3. Extract the off-line file and its extracted name ".dropbox-dist" so it is a hidden folder you press "CTRL+H" for see that folder and copy or cut it, then paste it in your home folder as same extension. DON'T RENAME IT.
4. Now you create a dropbox account from here .
5. Now go to Application -> internet -> dropbox , now a dropbox icon is appear on your panel right click and first set proxy if you are under proxy server.

Congrats you install dropbox successfully.

GAxel

In this summer i started a OpenSource project GAxel (GUI-Axel). It is a front end of Axel (A light weight command line download accelerator for cross platform) and its source code is written in C++ using QT library. I made a logo for it as same its name and create a wiki page also.
So now i tell you how to install this simple software -

Dependencies
1. You have installed Axel in your system otherwise its not work.
2. If you want compile the source code then you need qt library in your system.
Installation
1. Download source code form sourceforge. You can use Subversion for getting software files here is command " svn co https://gaxel.svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/gaxel gaxel "
2. Extract the tarball after that you get source files and ReadMe file please go through ReadMe once.
3. There is a install.sh file you open your terminal and and execute this file using "./install.sh"
4. Logout from your user account and login again.
5. Now GAxel is installed in you system you can run using command "gaxel".

If anyone of you join this project you feel free to contact me we have some more thing to implement i mention those in TODO list. If you use software and stuck with some error Please let me know i will be happy if someone post some bug in software.

When i start my Apache server it show me error as i mention in title so i start googly for understand the reason behind it and at last i got results which i share with you may be it will also help for you when you getting same error.

Steps :

1. First you search where is your httpd.conf file (In fedora its path is /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf)
2. Open your httpd.conf file in your favourite editor (Like i opened in vim its my favourite)
3. Search for "ServerName http://example.com" previously it is commented you uncomment it and set your ServerName in place of "http://example.com" (like i am using my localhost server so i set it localhost)
4. Start your httpd service using command "service httpd start" or if it is already running then restart it using command "service httpd restart". Now you not see this error ....enjoy.

Install Fedora using local Network

As we know laptop CD/DVD writer not work more then 1 year (only if you are lucky) but installation of linux is not hard because you can use bootable pendrive . Using bootable pendrive we can install only base system because its use live image. So if you have two machine and one machine has fedora 13 iso and running some linux distro then you can install it on another machine by setup a local sever.
there are some basic step you have to follow for that

Configure Server (On my server fedora is running so all the setting work on fedora) :-

1.) One machine Which you want it server you install Apache on it and run Apache service using command "service httpd start".
2.) Then mount your Fedora -13 image on location /var/www/html/iso/ for that first we make iso directory in html folder using "mkdir" command.
3.) mount image using command "mount -o loop -t iso9660 /image-location /var/www/html/iso/"

Client Setting (System on which you want to install and i assume in client you have window installed otherwise you just upgrade your system) :-

1.) Download and install unetbootin on your system (http://unetbootin.sourceforge.net/)
2.) Then you need two files "vmlinuz and initrd.img" you got those from your server machine go to mounted directory (/var/www/html/iso/) and there is a folder "isolinux" you copy those file and paste it your client machine.
3. ) Open unetbootin and check Custom Option and in Kernel option give vmlinuz path and Initrd option give path of initrd.img.
4.) Select type: Hard disk and Drive: C .
5.) Click Ok and then reboot message pop up and just reboot.

when system is restart then select unetbootin option and after few queries you will get which medium you want install and there select url option and click next. After that url window pop up you have to give your server ip with path like in our example its "http://server_ip/iso/" and click ok. After that every thing go normally .

It has been quite long time that i have blogged. In this summer after rejected form IIT Mumbai i started a open source project GAxel. It is just a Graphical Interface of axel (a command line download accelerator) which is build using QT and C++. I just released its pre-alpha version and upload it on source-forge (http://sourceforge.net/projects/gaxel/ ).

In between my semester exam i attended rpm-build workshop which held on fedora-india freenode. It was a awesome workshop and i learned many things form that workshop.

my future planning is to add more features in GAxel and then build rpm.

Synchronizer in Linux

If you are doing some important work in your computer and you want to share it side by side with your friend then you can use synchronizer tool they are too many but i prefer Unison file Synchronizer.

What is Unison?

Unison is a multi-master file-synchronization tool. It allows two replicas of collection of files and directories to be stored on different hosts (or different locations on the same host), modified separately, and then brought up to date by propagating the changes in each replica to the other.

Basic Steps :-

Installation
1.Open your terminal in superuser mode and type "yum search unison"
2.Then you find a proper version of unison and install by using yum install

Configure
1. Then type your unison in terminal.

After that you double click on default then it open like:-

Then you just select which folder or file you want to share and click OK

Now there is many protocol option you can choose any one of them i choose ssh and give the ip address of host computer and the username also after that click OK

if you are using ssh then it ask for authenticity just type yes and click OK

Now it try to connect the host machine.

after connection it ask the host machine password you give the password and configure is done.
And now you are connect to the host machine and easily synchronize your file with your friends computer.

Make Bootable pendrive

If your Dvd writer not working and you want to install linux in your system then just follow some steps and make a bootable pendrive so that you easily install linux in your system.

note : only make bootable live iso file

step 1. first you install "unetbootin" in your system by using:-
"yum install unetbootin"

step 2. after installation complete you open your terminal in superuser mode and then type "unetbootin".

you will see a GUI from of unetbootin like below screenshots

if you have a iso of live image then you click on "Diskimage" and give the location of that iso file and after that you click "ok".

* after compete that process you will get two option "reboot" and "exit" if you want install it in same system then click on reboot option.

* after rebooting system you set flash drive option first in your bios setting.

Mount NTFS partition in Linux

Some people think that if they install linux then they do manually mount ntfs partition each time but if you want your ntfs partition already mounted then just follow some commands

1. open your terminal and make superuser "$su"
2 type "$fdisk -l" it show your all partition ntfs and extended.

4 type "$cd /media"

Me and My friend was doing a project and suddenly some project file was delete due to his mistake by using 'rm' command. then we both search some software which retrieve our project file and at last we got success the name of that software is "testdisk".

How can you get testdisk :-

How to install :-
1. open your terminal and go to download directory .
2 just type "rpm -ivh NameOfPackage.rpm".

How to Use :-
1 if you want to repair your file system then type "testdisk" in your terminal and follow on screen instructions.

Change file permissions in linux

Many time you notice that when you want to execute a particular file or open a particular directory you got a message "permission denied" It means you do not have permission to open that file Do not worry you just use some command and you can access those file and directory.
steps :-
1. open your terminal
2. first make superuser "$su"
3. go to that file/directory location.
4. "chmod 777 filename/directory name"

if some files in that directory and you also change permission those file then
"chmod -R 777 filename"

what is chmod and how it work -
chmod is a linux command which use for change permission and we are using following options for permissions -

Install rpm in linux

If you are using a distro which is rpm base then you must be know how to install a .rpm package in your distro it s too simple just use some commands.

1. make superuser by using "$su"
2. then go to download folder where your .rpm file is downloaded.
3. "$ rpm -ivh filename.rpm"

and your .rpm file is now installed.
here the terms "-ivh" shows
-i = install
-v = verbose
-h = hash

Set line number in vi and vim editor

If you are doing programming in vi/vim editor then you need line number for finding error easily.If you want set the line number in your vi/vim editor then follow some basic command

if you want set line number just for a file then open that file with vi/vim and press "Esc" then type ":set number". it show you the line number.

Or if you want line number in defaults the you edit "virc/vimrc" file
1. first make superuser " $su"
2."gedit /etc/virc"
3. Now in that file you just add "set number" after "set ruler" and then save it now you can open any file with line number.

Remove error in mysql error 1045(28000):access denied for user 'root '@' localhost' (using password: NO)

1. Stop the mysql "$ /etc/init.d/mysqld stop"

3. Add the following line under [mysqld] section: "skip-grant-tables"

Install Codeblock in Fedora

Proxy setting in linux

Proxy setting in any linux distro is very simple you just execute following command

and your proxy setting is done.

Only for fedora user-:
if you want to use graphical interface then go to "system->preferences->network proxy" and here you set your proxy settings.

Install audio and video plugin in fedora11

Initially you are not able to play any audio and video file in fedora but do not take panic I tell you how to install audio and video plug-ins
1. first make superuser "$su"
2. then execute following command "$ yum install gstreamer-plugins-ugly gstreamer-plugins-bad gstreamer-ffmpeg"

It take 5-6 min. but after that you can play any audio and video file.

Add repository in fedora 11

1. Open your web browser and just open "http://rpmfusion.org/ "

2. After click that you save "rpmfusion-free-release-stable.noarch.rpm" and "rpmfusion-nonfree-release-stable.noarch.rpm" it download default in download folder.

3. now open your terminal and make superuser "$su"
4. after that "$cd Download"
5. "$ rpm -ivh rpmfusion-free-release-stable.noarch.rpm"
6. "$ rpm -ivh rpmfusion-nonfree-release-stable.noarch.rpm"
7. "$ yum repolist"
It take some time for refreshing packages.

“Cannot retrieve repository metadata (repomd.xml)” error in Fedora

If you are in http server region then you will face a new problem about command "$ yum repolist " it give you some error like "Cannot retrieve repository metadata (repomd.xml)"
you no need to worry about that just follow simple steps and you solve this error yourself

step 1:- open your terminal and make superuser by using "$ su"
step 2:- "$cd /etc/yum.repos.d"
step 3:- "$ls"
here you see two files "fedora.repo and fedora-update.repo"
step 4:- "$gedit fedora.repo"

method- 1:-
here you also see that the mirrorlist link start with "https" you just make it "http" in every lines which start with mirrorlist. save it and do same process with "$gedit /etc/yum.repos.d/fedora-update.repo"

method- 2:-
Now un-comment all the lines that start with the term baseurl and place a comment before all lines that start with mirrorlist and do same process with "$gedit /etc/yum.repos.d/fedora-update.repo"

If you are in proxy region then first you set your system proxy and then use "$ yum repolist".
It surely work properly now.

Manually Partition of hard disk for installation Linux

If you want to partition your hard disk manually for linux then you just remember following instructions -:

1. Root partition - where Fedora-11 is installed. This should be at least 6GB.

2. Home partition - where your files are kept.it size is depend on your choice.

3. Swap partition - this need only be twice the size of your memory.

Warning:- A hard disk can only have 4 primary partitions.However you can create a logical partition instead. This allows another 2 extended partitions to be created within it.

Fedora-11 installation with screenshots

hi Friends
The installation process of fedora 11 is very simple if you follow following simple steps you can easily install it in your system.

Installation Screen shots:-

Now the disk partition comes up which is most important for new beans there are five option but three of them are used frequently in which partition you want to install your fedora-11.
1:- use intire hard disk
2:- replace linux partition
3:- use free space
if you had a previous distro then you choose 2 option and if you want window and fedora 11 in dual boot then you first you partition your hard disk (minimum 10GB) and then unallocate it and during installation use option 3.

Here you click on "write changes to disk"

After reboot you will get following screens :-

At last you can click on "Sending" or "No,do not send" option
After finish you will get screen in which you just enter your password and you enter the Land of linux
